Nevertheless, the trend of plant-based diets is spreading fast and we can find more restaurants serving no meat nor fish than ever before. Vegetarian, vegan, macrobiotic, paleo, raw and ayurvedic are becoming familiar concepts for Lisboners and the options available are as tasty as they are healthy.

One of the oldest and probably the most popular vegetarian restaurant in Lisbon. It is located in a beautiful garden and features dishes from North Africa, Middle East, India and the Orient. The restaurant is kid friendly, having a children’s menu (with hamburgers), a basket with toys and a pond with fish, ducks and turtles. The location is in the Paz (peace) garden.

This vegetarian restaurant serves food based on the Ayurveda, the ancient Indian science of life, which considers that food is the best medicine for healing mind and body. To complement, there’s also an area dedicated to Zen experiences, including massages. At lunch time you can enjoy their buffet, which changes every day. Coming to this restaurant feels entering a Tibetian temple. The food goes hand in hand with the decoration and it is surely going to help you find your inner peace. Some of the specialties are Mango and Tofu Curry, Seitan Steak, Tofu Steak with Goat Cheese and Papaya and Curd Cheese Tart. Besides the restaurant they also have a shop with Tibetian artifacts, books, incenses, teas, among others. It’s 5 minutes away from the middle of Liberdade avenue.

The best 100% vegan restaurant in Lisbon! One of the top rated in HappyCow, the “TripAdvisor of healthy eating”. The menu changes every day. It has an area outside where they use tables on stairs to create their terrace, located in a very quiet square, away from the tourist crowds. This square is just 5 minutes away from Martim Moniz square and metro station.

In this place there was already a water reservoir from the 12th century and a huge bakery. Nowadays, it is a vegetarian and vegan restaurant that serves homemade food inspired in the Portuguese flavors, at different times of the day. It serves breakfast, lunch, dinner and, on Sundays, brunch as well. The menu has good choices: vegetarian burgers, peixinhos da horta (green beans tempura) and vegan pancakes are some of the options. There’s also a special room for exhibitions and meetings. It’s located very close from the beautiful viewpoint of Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen.
